The Latent Tendencies
(asusayas)

Friends:

Dear friend Tep Sastri who wisely wrote:

 >It is very true that when the citta stays inward in every moment,
 >there is no chance for lobha, dosa, and moha to arise.
 >But, don't we still have asusaya (kama-, patigha-, avijja-) ?

The mind focused inward can still grow greed for internal pleasant mental states, such as calm, jhāna, joy, content, bliss, etc. etc...

The latent tendencies (asusayas) are eliminated gradually:

1: The Latent Tendency to Sense-Desire.
2: The Latent Tendency to Aversion & Anger.
3: The Latent Tendency to Skeptical Doubt.
4: The Latent Tendency to Speculative Views.
5: The Latent Tendency to the Conceit 'I am'.
6: The Latent Tendency to Craving for Becoming.
7: The Latent Tendency to plain Blind Ignorance.

The Stream-Enterer (Sotāpanna) has eliminated 3+4
The Non-Returner (Anāgāmi) has eliminated 1+2+3+4
The Arahat has eliminated all 1-7...
